    Harpagon is a rich miser who is infamous for hoarding his wealth. He keeps his horses so weak with hunger they can't be used and lends his money at extortionate rates so the borrowers are crippled. He won't give his children the money they require to make good marriages and finds that he and his son are in love with the same woman, Marianne. Cleante, his son, stages a robbery to regain control over his life.
