Based on the tragic tale of Deirdre from the Ulster Cycle. Before her birth it is prophesied by a druid that Deirdre will ruin the Son of Usna and bring about the destruction of the great city of Emain. Deirdre is brought up in secret by her nurse, Lavarcham, with money provided by the King of Ulster, Conchubor, who intends to marry her when she comes of age. However Deirdre falls in love with Naisi the Son of Usna, and they flee to Alban. Fergus, an emissary sent from Conchubor, tracks them down and offers them the chance to return to Emain in peace, though treachery and death ensue.
