Born of Quaker stock on 30th December 1883 in Holywood, Co. Down, Hobson was one of the founders of the Ulster Literary Theatre. Hobson was a member of the Gaelic League, secretary of the first Antrim County Board of the GAA, and a prominent member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). His publications include The Life of Wolfe Tone (1919), A National Forests Policy (1923), and Ireland Yesterday and Tomorrow (1968).
