Born in Dundalk in 1909, the younger brother of Paul Vincent Carroll, he was educated by the Christian Brothers. Editor of the 'Dundalk Examiner' from 1933-1937 and drama critic of the Irish Independent(1944-48) and the Irish Press(1951-59). His first play was 'The Wanton TIde'.
