Loughlin Deegan

Loughlin Deegan’s first play, 'The Stomping Ground', was a finalist in the National Association of Youth Drama's Stage-it competition and was subsequently produced by Red Kettle Theatre Company, who also commissioned and produced his second play, 'The Queen and Peacock' in 2000/2001. Other work includes a one-act play, 'One Man Down', for Macra na Feirme and a short film, 'A Ferret Called Johnny', for Rough Magic Films. He has worked for various theatre companies including Druid and the Belltable Arts Centre as well as for Rough Magic, where he worked as literary mangager and later as executive producer (2003-2006). For the Irish Theatre Institute he was editor of the Irish Theatre Handbook and director of the Irish Playography Project from 2000-2003. Between 2006-2011 he was the Artistic Director and CEO of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival. In 2011, he was appointed the first Director of The Lir, Ireland's National Academy of Dramatic Art.
