Seán Dunne, originally from Waterford, was educated at University College Cork. He remained in Cork after taking his degree and became a highly respected journalist while simultaneously developing his unique voice as a writer. At the time of his premature death in August 1995, he had to his credit three collections of poetry in addition to his childhood memoir, In My Father's House, the record of his spiritual odyssey, The Road To Silence, and a collection of essays. He also edited The Cork Anthology and The Munster Poets. A fourth collection of poems, Time and the Island, was published posthumously in 1996.
