Jane Barlow

1856 - 1917

Born in Clontarf in 1856, Barlow spent most of her life living in "The Cottage" in Raheny and was a poet, short story writer, novelist and playwright. Her poetry collections include Bog-land Studies (1892), The End of Elfintown (1894), and Ghost-Bereft (1901), but her most successful work was the collection of stories Irish Idylls (1892). Barlow was awarded an honorary doctorate from Trinity College Dublin in 1904, the first woman to receive such an honour.
