Ailís Ní Ríain

Although her formal artistic training has been in classical music as a composer and pianist, Ailís has been writing texts for performance since 2003. Her debut play Tilt (also known as Beaten) toured in the UK and Ireland in 2007 to strong national reviews. In 2008 Tilt was produced by the Granary Theatre in Cork directed by Tony McLeane-Fay and in 2009 was translated into Swedish and ran for 5 weeks at Gothenberg’s Staadtheater. In 2009 Tilt was in repertory at Berlin’s Deutsche Theater. In 2010 she was awarded a mentorship with Nina Steiger, Soho Theatre, London and in 2012 she won the Tom Erhardt Peggy Ramsay Award. Treasured premiered in Liverpool in 2012, followed by Desolate Heaven at London’s Theatre503 in 2013 directed by Paul Robinson and Ireland’s Corcadorca presented The Tallest Man in the World at Cork Midsummer Festival 2013. Tilt is published by Nick Hern books. Desolate Heaven is published by Methuen Drama. Ailís is represented by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, London, UK.
